Urban Immersion 2012
The Chicago Metro Campus Ministry and Here’s Life Inner City Chicago are proud partner once again for Urban Immersion. Participants will spend time on Chicago campuses doing evangelism and helping to start and grow movements among the 180,000 students on 44 strategic campuses in Chicago. They will also get the chance to serve with HLIC partner ministries and churches to serve the needs of children, teens, and the poor throughout Chicago.
Cost: $180 covers your housing, materials, continental breakfast and one additional meal per day. This also covers a background check. Due to the fact that most UI participants will work with children our Cru legal department is requiring that participants have a background check done.
Registration: Use the links below to register for your week of Urban Immersion. Space is limited! Registrations are confirmed on a first-come-first-served basis and require a non-refundable deposit of $50 per person (the remaining $130 can be paid upon arrival).

Schedule: Participants will need to arrive on Sunday between 1 and 3:30. The last meeting for the trip is Thursday night and housing ends Friday morning. The trip will be a mix of ministry and evangelism on college campuses and urban ministries and churches. You’ll also get teaching from Chicago pastors, training from Campus and HLIC staff, and chances to explore and have fun in Chicago!
Location: The Agape Community Center is owned by Campus Crusade for Christ. It is our central meeting place during Urban Immersion. Most of our meetings, trainings and celebrations will take place there. Some campus groups will be housed there. Many groups will have the opportunity to minister there throughout the week. Housing: Groups are housed at different urban ministries and churches and are provided with sleeping mats or cots.
Things to Bring: Bible, sleeping bag, pillow, toiletries, towel, gym shoes, work clothes, causal wear, money for lunches, gas and other minor expenses.

Campus Ministry Activities: Primarily you’ll have the opportunity to share your faith with Chicago college students. You’ll have the opportunity to use surveys, Soularium, and the new Perspectives tool to engage students in spiritual conversations. Some students may also have the opportunity to engage with International Students through an English Club and other creative activities.
Urban Ministry Activities – There is a large variety of ministries that Urban Immersion students get the privilege of partnering with. Here are some examples to give you an idea of the types of things you could be doing. There is no guarantee that these will be ministries we serve with your week this year. Ministry assignments are made right before the start of each trip and are based on many factors such as group size, size of group needed at the ministry site, and desiring to give each group a varied experience. Because of this complexity requests for certain ministry sites cannot be considered.
S.A.Y Yes! – S.A.Y Yes stands for “Save America’s Youth”. It’s a Biblically based holistic after-school program. Those who serve at a S.A.Y Yes! center will have the chance to help with the program by helping lead Bible lessons, helping students with homework, and by being a friend to some of Chicago’s youth.
Roseland Outreach – If you participate in Roseland Outreach you get to help meet the physical and Spiritual needs of those in the neighborhood where you’ll be staying. Included in this is distributing food, and sharing your faith with those who are your neighbors for the week.
Sunshine Gospel Ministries – Sunshine Gospel Ministries exists to seek renewal in the city through ministries of discipleship, mercy, and justice. They do this through building relationships, teaching and mentoring, developing life skills, care and advocacy in their community. Those who serve at sunshine will have the chance to serve with their youth outreach.
Pacific Garden Mission – Since 1877, Pacific Garden Mission has been a refuge. Millions weary of struggling through life’s storms, have come to the “Old Lighthouse” seeking food, shelter, clothing, medical, and dental care. At this ministry site you’ll have the chance to prepare and serve food for hundreds of Chicago’s homeless population as you partner with this ministry that seeks to bring people to faith in Jesus!
Pui Tak Center – Located in the heart of Chinatown, The Pui Tak Center offers programs for youth, recent immigrants, and those trying to learn English. Those who serve at Pui Tak could help in any of the variety of programs that the Center has.
Roseland Good News Day Care – Help out with the day care children – feed, recreation, teach bible stories, etc. Also do odd jobs for the ministry.
By The Hand Club for Kids – Help with the after-school ministry – teach bible lessons, tutor, mentor, etc.
Salvation Army – Help with homeless ministry – pack food boxes, go out on the food distribution truck, help sort clothes, and other odd jobs at the ministry facility.
Lasalle St. Senior Center – Help clean senior citizens’ apartments while talking to them about Christ.
Restoration Ministries – Helping in their clothing resale shop, mingling with men and women in recovery, share Christ and pray with hurting people, serve in the after-school ministry, minister to senior citizens.
Agape Center Teen Ministry – Helping with outreach to teenagers, sports, refreshments, teach bible studies, etc.
Greater Faith Church (Feeding Ministry) – Help cook and serve meal for homeless and those in need and share testimony with them too.
Roseland Christian Ministries – Hang out with the homeless, playing cards, games, serving snacks and sharing testimonies, etc.
Dunne Elementary School – Helping tutor children in Chicago public school, helping teacher with one-on-one tutoring, etc.
